The meeting was held within the scope of preparation for the first Inter-Parliamentary Session on Road Safety Laws. People´s Deputy O.Skybinetskyi and President of the All-Ukrainian Non-Governmental Organization "Road Safety Association" M.Berlin took part in the meeting.
Viktor Shvets stated that road safety in Ukraine has become an issue of national security. He informed about the expected results and organization of the first Inter-Parliamentary Session on Road Safety Laws, and the measures taken by the committee and the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.
Kathleen Elsig highly appreciated the efforts of Ukrainian parliament members aimed at strengthening of the road safety system. She expects the Inter-Parliamentary Session on Road Safety Laws to become the first step towards reducing the number of traffic accidents worldwide.
Kathleen Elsig stated that the Inter-Parliamentary Session will help achieve a number of goals on the regional and national levels. She also offered assistance of the Global Road Safety Partnership in the organization of the session.
The participants of the meeting discussed coordinated organization of the Inter-Parliamentary Session, and agreed to sing the trilateral Memorandum on cooperation.
